How to Manage in a Downturn

This 2 day seminar focuses on the nuts-and-bolts situations confronting managers in today's uncertain world, and equips them with the tools to reduce fear and strengthen performance.

Today's challenging economy requires a committed, engaged team approach to ensure that our organisation will thrive in the days ahead. People must continue to be proactive and not react with fear. Fear and anxiety kill innovation and creativity because they turn employees into turtles. They pull back into their shells and think "do nothing wrong" instead of "do the right thing" and "don't rock the boat" instead of "take intelligent risks". These are exactly the wrong attitudes and behaviours at any time but especially so now when organisations need all the new ideas they can get just to stay even.

Taking team members through a change process requires courage and tact. Being an effective team leader or team member requires working with different personalities, styles and abilities. We must be able to work with challenging people, maintain motivation and foster a competitive spirit that builds cooperation in challenging times.

Who should attend

Managers and supervisors who are looking for new ways to keep themselves and their teams moving forward positively in spite of the economic pressures.

At the end of this seminar participants will be able to:

  • Identify the qualities of a good leader who remains strong in critical situations
  • Adapt our attitudes and behaviours to a changing world and lead others through the change
  • Build trust, credibility and respect
  • Develop an environment of ideas and innovation
  • Coach for sustained performance even when team members feel under pressure
  • Help colleagues feel motivated and valued
  • Manage the process of change
  • Transform ideas into plans of action
  • Handle mistakes with consideration
  • Develop mental toughness in themselves and others
  • Create a leadership vision to establish a positive anchor to the future
  • Strengthen individual and team performance levels
  • Leverage team problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
